Four arrested, charged after Kona drug raid

Four West Hawaii residents are facing various drug offenses after police reportedly located more than a half-ounce of methamphetamine and small amounts of crack, heroin and morphine while executing a search warrant Friday at a Kona Highlands home.

Four West Hawaii residents are facing various drug offenses after police reportedly located more than a half-ounce of methamphetamine and small amounts of crack, heroin and morphine while executing a search warrant Friday at a Kona Highlands home.

Hawaii Police Department Area II Vice Section detectives served the search warrant on Friday at a Malino Place home where they reportedly located 17.2 grams of methamphetamine, .2 grams of crack cocaine, 2.2 grams of heroin and 4 morphine pills. Police also located a loaded .38 caliber revolver, drug paraphernalia and $1,000 dollars in cash.

Police subsequently arrested two men, ages 51 and 34, and two women, ages 23 and 25, who were later charged with various offenses stemming from the search warrant’s execution, according to police.

Herbert Smith, 51, who resides at the Malino Place home, was charged with seven counts of promoting a dangerous drug, one count of methamphetamine trafficking, five counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and two weapons offenses, according to police. His bail was set at $315,000.

Alyssa Anderson, 23, who also lives at the home, was charged with one count of promoting a dangerous drug and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia, according to police. Her bail was set at $4,000.

Sidney Biber, 25, of Kailua-Kona was charged with seven counts of promoting a dangerous drug, one count of methamphetamine trafficking, five counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and a weapons offense, according to police. Her bail was set at $45,000.

Leonard Karpik, 34, of Ocean View was charged with two counts each of promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia, according to police. His bail was set at $40,000.

Anderson was released from police custody after posting bail. Smith, Biber and Karpik were held at the Kona police cell block pending an initial court appearance.

According to police, complaints from the public and calls to the department’s Ice/Drug Tip hotline resulted in the investigation and subsequent search warrant execution.

Police encourage the public to report suspected drug activity by calling its Ice/Drug Tip Hotlines at 329-0423 in West Hawaii or 934-8423 in East Hawaii.
