HILO — Hilo manager Shaye Miura gave Isaiah Mahaulu the baseball on his birthday, and it paid off.
Amped up for a rare night game at Wong Stadium and celebrating his 15th birthday, Mahaulu turned out the lights on Makakilo-Kapolei with a three-hit shutout to power Hilo to 2-0 victory Saturday.
Keian Kanetani was 2-for-2 with a run scored and provided an inspirational spark for Mahaulu. Kua Manuia and Joey Ongais-Kahapea each drove in runs for Hilo, which will face Kauai at 4:30 p.m. today in the winners bracket of the double-elimination tournament for ages 13-14.
