Hula performance Saturday at park

Volcano Art Center celebrates the traditions and art of hula with the Na Mea Hawaii Hula Kahiko Performance from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the hula platform in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Halau Na Pua O Uluhaimalama under the direction of kumu hula Emery Aceret will perform. The audience is encouraged to bring mats for sitting on the grass and be prepared for variable weather conditions.

On the same day, traditional Hawaiian arts and craft demonstrations will be held on the front porch of the Volcano Art Center Gallery from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Demonstrations include hands-on displays and lessons where all ages are invited to meet, learn from and talk story with knowledgeable locals.

The free community event is presented in cooperation with Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and supported in part by the Hawaii Department of Research and Development and Hawaii Tourism Authority. Because park entrance fees apply and parking is limited, carpooling is recommended.
