The eighth Hawaii Performing Arts Festival begins July 6 with an opening night concert featuring world famous violinist Chee-Yun performing Antonion Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons.”
Based at Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Waimea, the festival brings young artists together with renowned teachers to study and perform in more than 20 concerts, showcasing a wide variety of musical genres.
The festival continues with events including an opportunity to meet early music expert Stephen Stubbs; concerts in Honokaa and Hilo featuring Hawaii Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Iggy Jang with Gary Washburn and Quack Moore; and fully staged theatrical productions of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”
“There’s so much great music to choose from this summer,” said Val Underwood, the festival’s co-founder and artistic director. “From Vivaldi to Mozart to Handel to Broadway. And opera.”
Many concerts are free to the public.
