Kona defeated Hilo Red 17-10 and 8-3 on Saturday at the Boys and Girls Club Field in Hilo in the PONY sectional.

Kona advances to the state tournament July 7-11 at Wong Stadium, along with Hilo Blue.

In the first game, DJ Sekiya, Shaden Lewi, Shelton Grace and Blaise Leong each had three hits to lead Kona. Tate Fernandez earned the win.

Mike Jitchaku, Garrick Yokoe, Royce Nuniez, Bryson Nakao and Shaun Kurosawa each had two hits for Hilo Red.

In the second game, Lewi hit a single and two home runs to lead Kona. He hit two-run home runs in the first and seventh innings.

Sekiya had three hits, Pohaku Dela Cruz added a three-run home run, and Nalu Kelii added three hits.

Sekiya earned the win, and Nakao took the loss for Hilo.
