Big Island police are investigating the theft of more than $50,000 in siding and roofing material this week in South Kohala.

Big Island police are investigating the theft of more than $50,000 in siding and roofing material this week in South Kohala.

Some time after Monday, approximately 400 sheets of iron siding and roofing were removed from the Kawaihae Industrial Area, according to the Hawaii Police Department. The missing materials are made from 24-gauge iron siding/roofing and are about 24-by-4 feet in size.

The value of the material is estimated at more than $50,000, according to police.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311. Those who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
