Retired military group slated to meet June 23
The Big Island Retired Military Association will hold its June luncheon meeting at noon June 23 at the home of Jim and Carol Traxler in Kailua-Kona.
The cost of the meal is $10 per person. “Mystery speakers” are scheduled to appear, sharing about a topic that is of interest to all members and should add a different dimension of fun and adventure to the club’s future plans.
The association’s Mark Allen Traxler Memorial Scholarship winner, Chelsie Uilaiii Kuali, is invited to the luncheon.
All retired members of the military services and their spouses residing on the Big Island are eligible for membership in the association and are invited to attend. Guests of members are welcome.

holds talk story June 23
State Senate District 2 candidate Russell Ruderman will hold a talk story from 4 to 7 p.m. June 23 at Volcano Garden Arts in Volcano Village.
The event offers a chance to meet Ruderman, pupu provided by Island Naturals and live music by Wendell Ing and friends.

Free concert at Hale Halawai Thursday
The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting a free concert at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hale Halawai on Alii Drive. The West Hawaii County Band, conducted by Lisa Archuletta, will perform.
Audience members are advised to bring their own folding chairs.

Young Brothers offers grants to nonprofits
Young Brothers Ltd. and Hawaiian Tug and Barge are now accepting grant applications from nonprofit community organizations on the island of Hawaii for its Community Gift Giving Program. The program will award grants of up to $1,000 per organization.
To be considered, organizations must be approved by the IRS under Section 501(c)3. Grant-seeking organizations must operate in one or more of the following areas: health, education, civic and community service, youth activities, cultural enrichment, environment or special community projects.
In 2001, HTB-YB established the Community Gift Giving Program to provide recognition and support to charitable community organizations on each island. Since its inception, the program has contributed more than $699,000 to 743 nonprofit organizations statewide; $257,250 to 316 Hawaii Island organizations.

group meets Thursday
You’ll Never Walk Alone, a cancer support group, meets from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
This free group is open to all cancer survivors and co-survivors.
