Minnie Barres

Minnie Barres, 102, of Keaau, died June 7 at home. Brn in Kapulena, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. June 13 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Our Lady of Lourdes cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by daughters, Beverly (Ronnie) Coldiron of Portland, Texas, LaVerne (Donald) Chong, of Yorba Linda, Calif.; son, Sherwood Barres of Honokaa; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Antone Caravalho Sr.

Antone “Tony” Cordeiro Caravalho Sr., 89, of Keauhou Mauka, died June 6 at his residence. Born April 6, 1923, in Hawi, he was a retired mac nut and coffee farmer, owner of Phillips 66 in Kainaliu and Kainaliu Used Cars, workedas a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for the former Kohala Sugar Co. and member of the Catholic Church and Kohala Puerto Rican Club.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. June 14 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Kawanui for a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Burial follows in the church cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

He is survived by wife, Adelia Caravalho, of Keauhou Mauka; sons, Anthony Caravalho and David (Theresa) Caravalho, both of Keauhou Mauka, Christino (Hannah) Caravalho, of Hilo; daughters, Irene Frederick, of Kailua-Kona, Adeline (Michael) Silva, of Kona Palisades, Annie (John, Sr.) Paul, of Kaloko; sisters, Betsy Caravalho, of mainland, Louisa Santiago, of Kapaau, Annie Travens, of Captain Cook; 42 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Avis Mae Manikis Pavao, 55, of Keaau, died June 2 at Kuakini Medical Center on Oahu. Born Dec. 24, 1956, in Hilo, she was a retired customer service manager for Walmart in Hilo and member of the Assembly of God Christian Church.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. June 14 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Cremation follows. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Joseph Pavao; sons, Brandon Manikis, Baylen (Beth) Pavao; mother, Elizabeth (Stephen) Miller; sisters, Patty (Patrick) De Silva, Jasanda (Herbert) Laranang; brothers, Gilbert Manikis, Glen (Charlene) Manikis; six grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joan “Peaches” Jeanette Boldt, 76, of Mountain View, died May 8 at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 7, 1936, in Hollywood, Calif., she was a columnist for West Hawaii Today, volunteer for the American Cancer Society-North Kohala and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keaau 2nd Ward.

Beth “Granma” Ellen Bath, 84, of Kurtistown, died May 29 at Hilo Medical Center. Born at home in Graham County, Kansas, she was retired from the clothing manufacturing industry.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 16 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Orchidland Chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests no flowers.

She is survived by sons, Roy (Stephanie) Bath and Philip (Rebecca) Bath, both of Kurtistown; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Charles “Chuck” E. Tudor, 70, of Pahoa, formerly of Jacksonville, Fla., died May 30 at his home. Born Oct. 25, 1941, in Ames, Iowa, he was a photographer.

Dorothy June Beddow Tuiavii, 77, of Keaau, died June 2 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Rendville, Ohio, she was a retired registered nurse with Life Care Center of Hilo and member of Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She is survived by husband, Alapati Tuiavii, of Keaau; sons, Steven (Angela) Boothroyd, David Boothroyd, Michael (Hiroe) Kobayashi, Christian Boothroyd and Adam (Elana) Boothroyd, all of Honolulu; brother, Bill (Audrey) Beddow, of Texas; sister, Jeannie Beddow, of Keaau; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

William “Billy” Henry Arnold Jr., 59, of Mountain View, died June 4 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 6, 1959, in Honolulu, he was a commercial fisherman and the proprietor of the Onipaa Self-Defense School.
