Drive-in movie night Friday in Waimea

Drive-in movie night Friday in Waimea

The first drive-in theater, dreamed up by Richard Hollingshead, appeared in Camden, N.J., in 1933. In 2011, New Hope Waimea Christian Fellowship caught Hollingshead’s vision, offering its own drive-in experience with a big-screen set up on Church Row.

Movie Night returns at 7:30 p.m. Friday with the showing of “We Bought a Zoo.” The movie tells the true story of a widower and his two children who purchase a home with a zoo in the backyard. The comedy weaves together the challenges of single parenting, financial struggles and Mother Nature, as the family tries to find a way to save the zoo and themselves.

Movie Night is sponsored by New Hope Waimea Christian Fellowship, located at 65-1078 Mamalahoa Highway, Waimea.
