Two men and a teen were arrested late Tuesday shortly after a reported robbery in the parking lot of Coconut Grove Marketplace in Kailua-Kona.
About 11:30 p.m. Kona patrol officers responded to the parking lot where they determined a 27-year-old Kailua-Kona man had been confronted by three men who reportedly attacked him, threw him to the ground and subsequently took his backpack, according to the Hawaii Police Department. The man was able to retrieve the backpack as the men prepared to flee the scene in a blue Ford Bronco.
The 27-year-old suffered scrapes and a cut to his face, but declined medical treatment, according to police.
At 11:47 p.m., police located the SUV and its occupants on a dirt road behind a Henry Street gas station. Two Kailua-Kona men, ages 18 and 20, along with a 17-year-old boy, were arrested on suspicion of robbery. West Hawaii Today is not identifying the individuals because they haven’t been charged with a crime.
The 17-year-old was released to his parents early Wednesday morning, according to police. The men remain held at the Kona police cellblock while detectives continue the investigation.
