The Kona Shrine Club’s June meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. today at the Kona Elks Club. Members will discss the 2012 King Kamehameha Day Parade and special events.
All Shriners are welcome at the meeting and to join members in the parade.
Literacy council gathers Friday
The Kona Literacy Council meets at 1 p.m. Friday at the Kailua Learning Center located in the Kailua Village Condominiums, 75-5766 Kuakini Highway, No. 106A.
The council administers the center where trained volunteer tutors help adults improve their reading, writing, math and computer skills. Members and those interested in learning about the council are invited to attend.

Evans, Green attending Waikoloa meeting
State Rep. Cindy Evans and Sen. Josh Green will provide an end-of-session update, and a representative from Pohakuloa Training Area will discuss flyovers by the military from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Waikoloa Elementary School.
The meeting is sponsored by the Waikoloa Village Association.
Quilters group meeting in Waimea
Mauna Kea Quilters is a group of patchwork quilters who enjoy sharing their love of quilting with others. The public is invited to attend their meeting from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in the meeting room of the Thelma Parker Memorial Library. Members will show and tell and share new ideas and techniques after a business meeting.

Church plans rummage sale
South Kona Assembly of God in Honaunau is having a rummage sale on the lower church parking lot from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The church is located just south of Middle Keei Road on Highway 11.
Proceeds from this sale of clothing, kitchen tools and assorted other items will benefit ongoing projects and community outreach.
