The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea summits, above 8,000 feet, through 6 a.m. Monday.

The service forecast 25 to 35 mph easterly winds for Saturday night. The winds are anticipated to increase to 25 to 40 mph on Sunday.

Forecasters said the increase in winds is the result an upper level low approaching the islands from the East.

A wind advisory means that winds of at least 30 mph and gusts over 50 mph are forecast, according to the service. Motorists are advised to use extra caution.
