The Hawaii County Fire Department says a search has resumed for a fisherman missing since Saturday off South Point.
The man’s name has not yet been released.
According to the Fire Department, the fisherman was throwing net with a friend when he was swept out to sea around 2:52 p.m. Saturday. Friends on shore tried to supply him with a floatation device and had no success. Witnesses on the beach said they lost sight of him approximately 200 yards off shore and he was drifting west.
Fire rescue personnel used two helicopters and a rescue boat to conduct aerial and underwater searches. The department’s search was postponed because of darkness and started again at first light today. The Coast Guard continued the search throughout the night. However, the search Saturday had “negative results.”
