Big Island police are investigating a robbery reported early Friday in Hilo.
Around 12:30 a.m., South Hilo Patrol officers responded to a hold-up alarm at a service station on Kekuanaoa Street, according to the Hawaii Police Department. A man reportedly brandished a gun, demanded money from an employee and then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of currency. The employee did not suffer any injuries.
About 12 hours later, police arrested a 24-year-old Hilo man at his residence on suspicion of robbery, terroristic threatening , shoplifting, and theft, according to police. He is being held at the Hilo Police Station pending further investigation.
West Hawaii Today is not identifying the man because he had yet to be charged with a crime as of press time.
