At about 12:30 a.m., South Hilo Patrol officers responded to a hold-up alarm at a service station on Kekuanaoa Street. A male suspect brandished a gun demanding money from the employee and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of currency. The employee did not sustain any injuries during the ordeal.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section, Officers from South Hilo Patrol and Community Policing through their investigation identified a male suspect, 24-year-old Chase K. Tam of Hilo.
At about 12:30 p.m., Police arrested Tam at his residence for Robbery, Terroristic Threatening (2 counts), Shoplifting, and Theft. He is being held at the Hilo Police Station pending further investigation.
