Plein air painting

Lynn Capell begins a “Wet Paint: Plein Air Painting” course from 9 a.m. to noon June 17. Sessions are planned at the same time every Sunday through July 15. Tuition is $150 for the entire six-week series or $30 per class.

Capell teaches a step-by-step approach to working quickly in oils as students paint outside to capture the surrounding beauty. The class will meet in various locations. Students will complete a painting within each session. Beginner through advanced artists are welcome.

Youth program

“Junk2Funk: Crossing the Green Bridge” is a summer art experience planned for youth, kindergarten-age through 12th grade. The five-week course lasts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 11 through July 13. The entire course costs $800. A one-week session costs $215.

Through the lens of self, family, community, world and universe, students will create various artworks based on a specific theme. Various media will be explored, including drawing, mixed media, music, poetry and mural painting.

Resident artists Yarrow Lutz and Gerald Lucena in collaboration with guest artists Andrea Linborg, Lindsay Lander and Miho Morinoue will both challenge and support the critical and creative thinking skills of their students.

Recycled materials will replace traditional ones whenever possible, bridging the seemingly worthless into an object that holds meaning and visual merit.

The program concludes with an exhibition from 1 to 3 p.m. July 13.

Evening studio time

Artists looking for time to reignite their creative side are welcome to attend “Create After Dark” at the Donkey Mill Art Center from 6 to 10 p.m. every Tuesday. During these sessions, the center is available for use by all as an open medium studio.
