Tuesday is candidate filing deadline

The Office of Elections reminds individuals who want to run for office in the 2012 elections that the candidate filing deadline is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The office recommends individuals avoid waiting until the last day to file, and to obtain more than the minimum number of voter signatures required for the office they are seeking.

Going into the last week of the candidate filing, 136 people have filed for the 120 seats up for election. Thirty-eight seats have no officially filed candidates.

Aug. 11 is the primary election date.
