Muriel Boom

Muriel Boom

Muriel Jane Boom, 81, of Pahoa, died May 21 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kansas City, Mo., she was a retired travel agent, lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3830, an artist, hula dancer and ukulele player.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. June 1 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3830 located at the end of Maluhia Road in Pahoa for a celebration of her life and potluck. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Richard Boom, of Pahoa; son, Gary (Jane) Boom, of Gresham, Ore.; daughters, Laurie (David) Holiday, of Milwaukee, Ore., Michelle Hendricks, of Pahoa, Jody (Danny) Harval, of Oklahoma; hanai son, Joey Boom, of Pahoa; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.

Pablo Draculan

Pablo Cablayan Draculan, 102, of Hilo, died May 18 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 15, 1909, in Cagayungan, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was retired from the former Hamakua Sugar Co., a saxophonist with MC and The Swing Masters of Ookala and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, Filipino Catholic Club and the former Kuhilani Kumiai.

Friends may call at 5:30 p.m. May 30 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6:30 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. May 31 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Lilia Draculan, of Hilo; daughters, Lorena (Jason) Kauhi, of Keaau, Michelle Draculan, of Hilo; four grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Regan Steelman

Regan Steelman, 63, of Kailua-Kona, died May 17. Born March 21, 1949, in Anaheim, Calif., he was a high school special education teacher, reef teacher for Kohala Center, volunteer at Hawaii Island Humane Society’s Kona shelter, member of Kona Underwater Photography Society and Keauhou Canoe Club.

Private services are planned.

He is survived by wife, Julie Steelman; daughter, Jordana Steelman, of California; sister, Stephanie (George) Scott, of Portland, Ore.

Robert Johns

Robert Thomas Johns, 70, of Hilo, died May 15 at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 9, 1942, in Los Angeles, he was the proprietor of Quality Impressions in Las Vegas.

He is survived by spouse, Lorna Johns, of Hilo; brother, Bill (Carmen) Johns, of Wailea, Maui.

Curtis Shoemaker

Curtis Davis Shoemaker, 89, of Waimea, died May 21 at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born July 22, 1922, in Berkeley, Calif., he was a retired engineer for Hawaii Telephone Co., World War II Army veteran, cofounder of Hilo Sailing Club, member of Hilo Rotary Club, Kawaihae Boating Association and Amateur Radio Club.

Private services are planned.

He is survived by wife, Momi Shoemaker, of Waimea; sons, Karl (Joanie) Shoemaker, of Spokane, Wash., Phillip (Libby) Hervey, of Bend, Ore.; daughters, Sandra (Douglas) Carr, Iayon (Robert) Shoemaker, both of Waikoloa, Sydney (Lawrence) Stevens, of Waimea; brother, Richard (Mary) Millen, of Brisbane, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Hilda Morishita

Hilda Yasuko Morishita, 80, of Keaau, died May 12 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 11, 1932, in Hilo, she was a manager at the former Hirose Nursery in Hilo.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers.

She is survived by sons, Steve (Michelle) Morishita, of Hilo, Jon Morishita, of Mountain View; daughter, Ann (Michael) Imaizumi, of Hilo; hanai sons, Bill Hansen, Kaholo Duncan, both of Laupahoehoe; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
