Lon Esker Ussery Jr., 84, of Kailua-Kona, died May 15 at his residence. Born March 21, 1928, in Wilmington, N.C., he was a retired clinical psychologist who worked in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, N.C., and also in private practice.

Private services will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Hawaii Island Humane Society.

He is survived by companion, Tom Blackburn, of Kailua-Kona; stepsons, Adam (Karen) Falk, of Williamstown, Mass., Toby Falk, of Chappaqua, N.Y.; hanai sisters, Kate Bell and Priscilla Studholme, both of Kailua-Kona; hanai brother, Jack Wallace, of Kailua-Kona.
