The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for the Big Island through 6 p.m. today.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for the Big Island through 6 p.m. today.

The service forecast 15 to 30 mph easterly winds with gusts up to 50 mph for the island. Areas specifically noted in the forecast were Kailua-Kona, Milolii, South Point, Pahala, Hilo, Volcano, Honokaa, Waimea, Waikoloa and Saddle Road above the 5,000-foot level.

A wind advisory means that winds of at least 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph are forecast, according to the service.
