Strong winds are expected on Hawaii Island summits through Tuesday, according to a National Weather Service advisory.

Honolulu forecasters are predicting 25 to 35 mph east winds, with gusts up to 45 mph, above the 8,000-foot elevation on Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. They are also anticipating stronger winds to arrive Tuesday evening, which will likely require the advisory to be extended and possibly upgraded.

Winds this strong can blow unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Motorists should use extra caution, stated the advisory issued early Monday morning.
