Charity Walk nets almost $1.4M statewide

The Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised a record-breaking $1,371,817 following culmination of the statewide event Saturday on Oahu.

A total of 12,412 walkers on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Molokai and the Big Island participated in the event that generated funds for more than 200 local charities. Maui raised the most funds of any of the islands for the second consecutive year — $530,123.

A total of 1,375 Big Island walkers raises $194,266 during the walk on May 12.

Since its inception in 1978, the Charity Walk has raised more than $24 million for Hawaii charities.
