Ellen Sanoria

Ellen “Celine” Bestamente Sanoria, 81, of Pahoa, died April 27 at The Queen’s Medical Center. Born March 21, 1931, in Honaunau, she was a retired housekeeper of Hilo Lagoon Hotel, flower harvester for Orchids of Hawaii and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pahoa, The Kupuna Alu Like Program of Pahoa and Pahoa Senior Citizens.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. May 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pahoa for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial is at the Pahoa Catholic Church Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, Cheryl Takano, of Honolulu, Darlene (Ralph) Hirano, of Pahoa, Betty (Leroy) Dikito, of Kalapana; son, Lawrence (Sandy) Sanoria, of Volcano; brother, Victor Bestamente, of Pahoa; sister, Sarah (Perfecto) Aniban, of Pahoa; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Alehandra Lauro

Alehandra Alice Lauro, 77, of Kailua-Kona, died April 19. She was born Feb. 26, 1935, on the Big Island.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. May 26 at Holy Rosary Church in Pahala for a 10 a.m. Mass.

She is survived by sons, Steve (Norine) Lauro and Lance (Noreen) Lauro, both of Kailua-Kona; brother, Trank Cansibog, of Oahu; sister, Mary (Quezon) Ganotise, of San Francisco; two grandchildren.

Iwao Shimizu

Iwao Shimizu, 89, of Hilo, died April 20 at Life Care Center Hilo. Born in Kona, he was a retired tour bus driver for Jack’s Tours.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

He is survived by sons, Charles (Shirley) Shimizu and Richard Shimizu, both of Hilo, Steve (Angie) Shimizu, of Waikoloa; daughter, Ilene (Winfred) Onishi, of Hilo; brothers, Hideo Shimizu, of Hilo, Mitsuo Shimizu, of Chicago, Steve Shimizu, of Los Angeles; sisters, Momoyo Maehira, of Hilo, Sue Tanaka, of Seattle, Betty Morioka, of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas Spinney

Thomas Kaimi Spinney, 54, of Waimea, died May 6. Born Feb. 12, 1958, in Honolulu, he was a carpenter and landscaper.

Memorial scattering services to be announced at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Minnie Spinney, of Waimea ; son, Jonathan Spinney, of Reno, Nev.; daughter, Leslie-Ann Spinney, of Honolulu; brothers, Alfred (Darlene) Spinney and Howard Spinney, both of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Demeatrice Spinney, Lorna Spinney and Faith (Andrew) Taketa, all of Kailua-Kona, Sandy (Kuhio) Lippertz, of Kailua, Oahu.

Kurt Schulz

Kurt Erich Schulz, 90, of Naalehu, died May 8. Born Nov. 16, 1921, in Koenigsberg, Germany, he practiced naturopathy and acupuncture in the holistic health field.

Private services are planned.

He is survived by son, Siegfried Schulz, of Dubois, Wyo.; daughters, Ingrid (Jim) Klumpp, of Hailey, Idaho, Jutta (Shane) Blood, of Sagle, Idaho; three grandchildren; one great-grand child.

Mark Hazen

Mark Lee Hazen, 54, of Ocean View, died April 26 at his residence. Born Feb. 28, 1958, in Oakland, Mich., he was a business owner and a landscaper.

He is survived by wife, Denise Hazen, of Ocean View; daughter, Annjelica (Jose) Zavala, of Columbus, Ga.; son, Leo Hazen, of Kailua-Kona; stepsons, Jose Zavala, of Columbus, Ga., Brody Halena and Darrell Lopez, both of Milolii; stepdaughter, Kristy Young, of Waiohinu; mother, Phyllis Hazen, of Welsey Bay, Mich.; brother, Terry Hazen, of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister, Gloria Hazen, of Phoenix; a granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sunao Nakahara

Sunao Nakahara, 94, of Hilo, died April 28 at Care Center of Hilo. Born April 17, 1918, in Hilo, he was retired building inspector for the state Department of Accounting and General Services andd member of the Taishoji Soto Mission and Kaumana 1½ Mile Kumiai.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Harue Nakahara, of Hilo; daughter, Glendean (Herbert) Kotomori, of Hilo; brother, Bunichi Usagawa, of Hilo; sister, Kay (Joe) Yamauchi, of Hilo; agrandson.

Calsey Santos

Calsey Brian Nobuyuki Santos, 31, of Kaumana, died May 1 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 22, 1980, in Hilo, he was a labor supervisor at Harner Wall Systems.

He is survived by son, Aidan Santos, of Oahu; mother, Charlene (Nathan) Cockett III, of Kaumana; father, Christopher Santos, of Hilo; brother, Christopher (Erin) Santos, of Kaumana; maternal grandparents, Nobuo (Jane) Awa, of the Big Island; a nephew; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
