Teen’s sweet prom dress made of Starburst wrappers
ISHPEMING, Mich. — A northern Michigan teen put together one sweet prom dress, thanks to the help of classmates who collected thousands of Starburst wrappers for her.
Diane McNease said she came up with the idea of making her prom dress out of candy wrappers when she saw a friend folding some. She estimates it took about 18,000 Starburst wrappers to make the corset of her dress, as well as matching hair bands and a purse.
The Ishpeming High School student wore the dress to last Saturday’s prom in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
The top half of the dress is made out of folded wrappers and the bottom looks more like a traditional gown. It took about five months to make, with help from family and friends.
Conn. teen’s body spray sets off
school fire alarm
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Officials say a fire alarm that went off at a Connecticut high school was activated by a student’s “overabundance” of body spray in a locker room.
Firefighters were called to Middletown High School shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.
Officials said the student used an excessive amount of the scented spray and created a cloud of mist right below a heat sensor, which tripped the fire alarm.
Firefighters allowed students and teachers to return to the building shortly after arriving.
Officials deemed the call a “routine accidental.”
Naked unicyclist charged for
distracting drivers
KEMAH, Texas — Police said a man arrested in a southeast Texas city for riding his unicycle in the nude was distracting drivers and creating a hazard.
Kemah police Chief Greg Rikard said 45-year-old Joseph Glynn Farley was not intoxicated or impaired when he was arrested Wednesday on a bridge in the city 20 miles southeast of Houston.
Rikard said Farley had been falling off the unicycle and into traffic.
Farley told officers he liked the feeling of riding without his clothes, which were found at the base of the bridge.
Police charged Farley, of Clear Lake, with misdemeanor indecent exposure. Bond is set at $1,500.

jails man for
taking call in court
DUBLIN — Letting your telephone ring in a courtroom is rarely a good idea. Taking the call is worse.
A Northern Ireland man received a brief jail sentence Wednesday after his phone rang, the judge told him to turn it off, but instead he took the call and had a brief chat.
The judge ordered 36-year-old Paddy Sweeney behind bars for two hours, then fined him $322 for willfully interrupting the court in Londonderry, Northern Ireland’s second-largest city. Sweeney had been watching a civil trial at the time.
Sweeney could have faced a maximum penalty of one month in jail and a $4,025 fine.
