Andrew “Sonny” Arceo, 82, of Papaikou, died April 28 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Papaikou, he was a retired cultivation superintendent for the former Mauna Kea Sugar Co.

He is survived by daughters, Andrea (Robin) Oshiro, of Honolulu, Annette Kaga, of Kahului, Maui; sons, Paul (Kuulei) Arceo, of Papaikou, Andrew Arceo, of Honolulu; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Noland Umuiwi
Noland “Bruddah Nolz” George Umuiwi, 40, of Hilo, died May 5 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a cook for Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center, Uncle Billy’s and Lehua Bar & Grill.

Jose Gouveia
Jose “Joe” B. Gouveia, 84, of Hilo, died April 28 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Madeira, Portugal, he was a retired landscaper and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Portuguese Culture Club.

He is survived by wife, Maria Gouveia, of Hilo; daughters:, Angela (Gerald) Araujo, Isabel Gouveia, Connie Gouveia, all of Hilo; son, Jose De Gouveia, of Florida; sisters, Salome Olim, Gilda (Alvarinho) Barbosa, both of Portugal; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lionel Ronald Silva Sr., 74, of Hilo, died April 22 at his residence. Born Aug. 12, 1937, in Pahala, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for Teruo Matsumoto Inc. and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ainaola Ward.

Brenda Lynn Eblacas-Nunes, 64, of Pahoa, died April 30 at Hilo Medical Center. Born June 28, 1947, in Hilo, she was an educational assistant for Keonepoko Elementary School, member of New Hope Christian Fellowship in Puna and Hui Makai Motorcycle Club.

Diane L. Kahakelii, 76, of Hilo, died April 27 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in New Deal, Mont., she was a retired social worker for the Hawaii State Department of Health, clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, volunteer and former Hawaii State coordinator for the American Red Cross and member of Hawaii Government Employees Association Retirees.

Violet Lopes (Tavares) Osborn, 96, of Hilo, died April 28 at her residence. Born April 26, 1916, in Hakalau, she was a lab technician for Hakalau Sugar and member of Malia Puka O Ka Lani Catholic Church.
