WHEA hosts
robotics show
From 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, West Hawaii Explorations Academy will host a robotics show at the Old Kona Airport Park roller hockey rink. Students from WHEA, Kealakehe, Ka‘u, Konawaena, Kohala and Waiakea High schools will showcase their robots.
The night of family fun and entertainment features live robot matches, music, food, team gear and a light bulb exchange.
Student entry is free; adults pay $2.
Sonshine Circus scheduled for Saturday
Kona Christian Academy’s Sonshine Circus is coming to town from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the school’s Palani Road campus.
“You Are the Light of the World” is the theme for the circus, an annual family event put on by students.
The “Greatest Little Show in Kona” includes clowns, stilt walkers and musclemen.
The show begins at 11 a.m. Game booths and other activities will be available throughout the day. The free event is open to the public.

National Kids to
Parks Day planned
Thousands of children nationwide will participate in National Park Trust’s second annual National Kids to Parks Day on May 19.
The Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park’s Forest Restoration Project is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon that day. This child- and family-friendly project involves planting native seedlings and removing invasive ginger. The work will take place within easy walking distance of the Kilauea Visitor Center. Volunteers of all ages are invited to help. Children must be supervised. Close-toed shoes are required and long pants recommended, along with gear for variable weather conditions plus drinking water and snacks.
Preregistration is required via 985-7373 or forest@fhvnp.org. Participants must sign a release form and a park volunteer form. Adults will need to co-sign for children. Instructions on where to meet will be provided upon registration.
After visiting the park, children are encouraged to submit photos of their adventures to Buddy@BuddyBison.org for possible inclusion in the trust’s national map commemorating the day.
Kealakehe class of 2002 plans reunion
Kealakehe High School’s 2002 graduates will hold a 10-year reunion the weekend of June 23 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. The cost is $45 per person until May 22; $50 on or after May 23.

Cruise Night
honors Chevys
Lanihau Center’s Cruise Night will spotlight Chevrolet cars and trucks and host an information table for Parents and Children Together. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Bank of Hawaii parking lot facing Palani Road. It is free to the public and all participants.
Corvettes, El Caminos, Camaros, Chevelles, Impalas and more will line up on either side of the DJ tent and will lead vehicles in a parade around the shopping center parking lot. Chevrolets will share the evening with more than 50 other hot rods, sports cars, antiques and imports.
The featured nonprofit, Parents and Children Together, is one of Hawaii’s private family service agencies and is a leader in the design and delivery of a broad range of innovative social and educational services.
Eddie O will play classic rock ‘n’ roll music. Everyone making a donation to Parents and Children Together will receive tickets for a prize giveaway featuring Mother’s Day gifts from center merchants.

Therapeutic surfing
for people with disabilities offered
The Hawaii Lifeguard Surf Instructors and Halona’s Ocean Tours are sponsoring the sixth annual Surf Day with Aloha, a free event offering therapeutic surfing for people with disabilities.
The event is planned for May 23 at Kahaluu Beach Park’s large pavilion. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The festivities, including surfing, Hawaiian cultural activities and entertainment run, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This is a benefit for Mana Olana, a Hawaii nonprofit organization. Call 325-2862 to register, volunteer or make a donation. The deadline to register is May 20.
