Jo Wokoun

Jo Wokoun

Jo Wokoun, 77, of Keaau, died April 28 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 9, 1934, in Jeffersonville, Ind., she was retired from civil service, a former shuttle driver for Big Island Honda and member of Kinoole Baptist Church and 650 Bowling League.

Private services were held. Scattering of ashes will be at a later date. Memorial donations in her memory may be sent to the Hawaii Island Humane Society, P.O. Box 939, Keaau, HI 96749.

She is survived by husband, Dennis Wokoun, of Keaau; sons, Richard Rager, of Corpus Christi, Texas, John Rager, of Mountain View, William Rager, of Lebanon, Pa.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; an aunt.

Elizabeth Gilkey

Elizabeth Pomaikai Gilkey, 85, of Waipahu, Oahu, died April 19 in Waianae, Oahu. Born in Honolulu and a former resident of Kailua-Kona, she was a kupuna with King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotels Senior Citizen Group.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. May 8 at Mililani Downtown Mortuary in Honolulu, for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial is at 1:30 p.m. at Mililani Memorial Park.

She is survived by sons, Patrick (Faith) Gilkey, of Sacramento, Calif., Timothy (Lehua) Gilkey, of Waimea; daughters, Patricia (Reginald) Celebrado, from Mililani, Oahu, Charla (Johnny Youngren) Vasconcellos and Cherie (Angel) Oquendo, both of Waipahu, Oahu, Jaquelyn-Nani (Anna) Gilkey, from Waianae, Oahu; brother, David Kaluhiwa, of California; sister, Elizabeth Chamberlain, of Maui; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

Masayo Iyo

Masayo Iyo, 102, of Hilo, died April 12 at Life Care Center in Hilo. Born in Pahala, she was the retired proprietor of Iyo Dry Goods.

Private service were held. Family requests flowers and monetary donations be omitted.

She is survived by sons, Harry (Junko) Iyo, of New Jersey, Raymond (Beatrice) Iyo, of Hilo; daughter, Harriet Iyo, of Hilo; brother, Gilbert (Florence) Yabusaki, of Oahu; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Archie Grant

Archie K. Grant, 79, of Waikoloa, died April 24 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Kobe, Japan, he retired as a professional musician for Ollie Phonics.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Michiko Grant, of Waikoloa; sons, Guy Grant, Kelly (Mia) Grant, both of Honolulu; brother, Morgan (Meg) Grant, of Honolulu; sister, Mitsuko (Motohiro) Kanesashi, of Japan; four grandchildren.

Alma Elzey

Alma Mae Elzey, 90, of Kailua-Kona, died April 22 at Life Care Center of Kona. Born May 19, 1921, in Decatur, Ark., she was a cashier.

Private services were held.

She is survived by daughter, Donna (Walt) Osborne, of Kailua-Kona; son, Gary (Kathy) Elzey, of Visalia, Calif.; two grandchildren; two nieces.

Mildred Takahashi

Mildred Midori Takahashi, 95, of Honolulu, died April 22 at Kona Community Hospital. Born April 2, 1917, in Kealakekua, she was a retired executive secretary for Hawaiian Electric Co.

Private services were held.

She is survived by sons, Gilbert (Joann) Takahashi, of Los Angeles, Hal Takahashi, of Honolulu; hanai daughter, Rita Manago, of Honolulu; brothers, Harold Manago, Jay (Beatrice) Manago, both of Captain Cook, Harry Manago, Takashi (Jane) Manago, Isamu (Amy) Manago, all of Honolulu, Pentson (Toshi) Sugamura, of Seattle; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
