The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high wind advisory for the Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa summits through 6 p.m. today.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high wind advisory for the Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa summits through 6 p.m. today.

The service forecast 20 to 30 mph easterly winds with gusts up to 45 mph for elevations above 8,000 feet.

A high wind advisory means that winds of at least 30 mph and gusts over 50 mph are forecast, according to the service. Winds this strong can bring down tree branches. Motorists are advised to use extra caution.
