Thursday town meeting to discuss physician shortage
Waimea Community Association will hold a panel discussion on the topic of Hawaii’s physician shortage at a town meeting planned for 5:15 p.m. Thursday in Waimea School cafeteria.
The panel will outline the issues that have caused a physician shortage in Hawaii and will discuss the advantages and challenges physicians face in locating a practice in Hawaii, especially in relatively rural communities. The formal program ends with a discussion of ways in which the community can help, followed by a question-and-answer period.
Also on the agenda will be an update on the newly formed Coqui-Free Waimea coalition, its recent purchase of equipment and educational projects to encourage community members to assist with eradication.
The public is invited to attend the free meeting. Donations to Waimea food pantries will be accepted.
The association’s light bulb exchange continues at the meeting. Residents may bring incandescent bulbs to exchange for CFLs.
