Jeep tour of Ka‘u scheduled for May 19

Kona Historical Society will travel to the district of Ka‘u on a “Jeep Trip” May 19. Highlights of this trip will be the history of the towns of Pahala and Naalehu. Panoramic views of the southern part of the Big Island are a must see.

Unlike previous Jeep trips, this entire tour is accessible by two-wheel drive vehicles. Check in at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot next to the Naalehu Theatre. The trip ends at 4 p.m. at Whittington Beach Park. A buffet lunch is provided by the Aikane Plantation. The cost for the trip is $65 and includes lunch and refreshments. Participants must be current society members and must reserve a spot and send in a waiver along with payment no later than May 14. Visit store.konahistorical.org or call 323-3222.

Retired military group meets Saturday

The Big Island Retired Military Association holds a luncheon meeting at noon Saturday at the home of David and Sophie Moore in Ninole. The Moores will offer a home cooked meal. Coffee, iced tea, beer and wine will be served. Cost for the meal is $10 per person.

Guest speaker will be Tom Goltz, an Army veteran who has 30 years experience in international, business in Europe and Latin America He is currently chief volunteer for the Big lsland Big Brothers and Big Sisters. He will give a presentation regarding the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program.

All retired members of the military services and their spouses residing on the Big Island are eligible for membership in the association and are invited to attend. Guests of members are welcome.
