Tony Ysawa

Tony Ysawa

Tony Ysawa, 52, of Kealakekua, died March 30 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 18, 1959, in Ailuk, Marshall Islands, he was a landscaper, a Marshallese translator and member of the Marshallese Assembly of God Church.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. April 20 at the Assembly of God Church on Alapa Street in Kailua-Kona for an all-night vigil. Friends may also call at 8 a.m. April 21 at the church for a service. Burial follows at Naalehu County Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by mother, Eonis Dribo, of Marshall Islands; sons, Carlo Ysawa, of California, Gregory Ysawa, Gufsag Ysawa, Anthony Ysawa and Tony Ysawa Jr., all of Ocean View; daughters, Mieo Ysawa and Judyann Ysawa, both of Marshall Islands; brother, Timmy (Rosana) Ysawa, of Honolulu; sister, Lucia (Paul) Ishoda, of Kailua-Kona; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Samuel Kama

Samuel “Kamuela” Kama, 61, of Kawaihae, died March 21 at his residence. Born March 22, 1950, in Honolulu, he was a master weaver, a member of the Gourd Society, Oregon Historical Society and a Navy veteran.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. April 28 at the Kawaihae Canoe Club in Kawaihae for a service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Elizabeth Kama, of Waianae, Oahu; sons, Samuel Kama Jr., of Waimea, Samson (Kanani) Kama and Sanford (Ailene) Kama, both of Waianae, Oahu; daughters, Sandee Kama, of Waimea, Samantha (Clutch Kaopua) Kama, of Waianae, Oahu; brothers, David (Natalie) Kama, of Maui, Peter Kama, Raphael (Colleen) Kama and Edmund Kama, all of Waianae, Oahu, Elijah Kama, of Portland, Ore.; sisters, Elizabeth Kama and Jamie (Justin) Fields, both of Ewa Beach, Oahu, Odelia (Thomas) Kaupu, of Kealia; numerous hanai brothers and sisters; 13 grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Margaret Sugai

Margaret Leiinaala Toshiko Sugai, 82, of Honolulu, died April 4 at the Palolo Chinese Home. Born in Papaikou, she retired as a beautician, and was also employed by Flowers by Jr. Lou & T and Watanabe Floral Inc.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 28 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary for a 10 a.m. service. Inurnment follows at 2:15 p.m. at Diamond Head Memorial Park.

She is survived by sons, Russell (Marie) Sugai, of Honolulu, Rodney (Stacey) Sugai, of Kapolei, Oahu; daughter, Audrey Torii, of Honolulu; sister, Lilinoe (Yorio) Tanaka-Onishi, of Hilo; two grandchildren.

William Buffum

William “Bill” Burnside Buffum, 90, of Waimea, died April 13 at his residence. Born Sept. 10, 1921, in Binghamton, N.Y., he was a retired Foreign Service officer, former U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, assistant secretary of state, under secretary general of the United Nations, member of Imiola Congregational Church and an Army veteran.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by daughters, Karen (Joe) Clarkson, of Honokaa, Diane (James) Klieforth, of Waikoloa; three grandchildren.

Robin McIntyre

Robin “Bibbin” Gari McIntyre, 47, of Kailua-Kona, died April 12 at the Medical Center. Born Jan. 8, 1965, in Orange, Calif., she was the operations manager of Kona Seafood Market and member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Services will be held in Newport Beach, Calif.

She is survived by daughters, Candice McIntyre, of Tustin, Calif., Liliani Christiansen, of Kailua-Kona; mother, Sandra Soule-McIntyre, of Tustin, Calif.; father, Gary (Randi) McIntyre, of Greeley, Colo.; brother, Michael (Wendy) McIntyre, of Costa Mesa, Calif.; sister, Holly (Julio Serratos) September, of Orange, Calif.; companion, Roger Christiansen, of Kailua-Kona; one grandson; several nieces and nephews.

Micah Matsumoto

Micah Kamalulani Haruo Matsumoto, newborn, of Kailua-Kona, died April 9 at Kona Community Hospital. He was born April 9.

Private services are planned.

He is survived by parents, Alicia Matsumoto and Thomas Garcia, both of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Isaiah-Thomas Garcia, of Kailua-Kona, Christian Garcia Sanchez, of Honolulu; maternal grandparents, Dale (Clarissa) Matsumoto and Kevin (Marisa) Kiyonaga, all of Kailua-Kona; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Theresa McKinney

Theresa C. McKinney, 87, of Hilo, died March 2 at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 11, 1924, in California, she was a retired high school teacher.

Stanley Watanabe

Stanley Satoshi Watanabe, 87, of Hilo, died March 20 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Aug. 17, 1924, in Olaa, he was a project foreman for S.K. Oda and Glenn Construction, general superintendent for Constructors Hawaii and Hawaiian Dredging and Construction and member of Taishoji Soto Mission and Carpenters Union Local 745.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by wife, Satsue Watanabe, of Hilo; sons, Wilton Watanabe and Earlton Watanabe, both of Hilo; daughter, Lorene Higa, of Hilo; sister, Peggy Takamori, of Honolulu; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
