Richard Silva Sr.

Richard Silva Sr.

Richard Joseph Silva Sr., 82, of Keaau, died March 29 at his residence. Born in Honomu, he was a retired issue man at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. April 20 at Alae Cemetery for a service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by sons, Richard Silva Jr., Michael Silva, Steven Silva and Russell Silva, all of Keaau; half sister, Pamela Grinstaff, of Mountain View; brother, Manuel Joseph, of Fremont, Calif.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Violet Ke

Violet Martines Ke, 61, of Pahala, died April 9 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 2, 1950, in Kona, she was a nut sorter for a macadamia nut company and member of the Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. April 21 at Naalehu Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Naalehu Community Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sisters, Alice (Lot Jr.) Kawaauha, of Naalehu, Stella (Eddie Sr.) Kuahiwinui, of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, Emma (Joseph Sr.) Akiu, of Mark Twain Estate, Beatrice Freitas, of Mountain View, Lori Duarte, of Waimea; brothers, Gary Gouveia, Johnny (Rhoda) Medeiros Jr, David (Tammy) Gouveia, all of Kona, Alfred (Marvaleen) Gouveia, of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ayako Nakahara

Ayako “Aichan” Kawamoto Nakahara, 90, of Hawi, died April 10 at Kohala Hospital. Born July 17, 1921, in Hakalau, she was a retired store manager for M. Nakahara Store in Hawi and member of Hawi Jodo Mission and Paauilo Hongwanji Mission.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. April 24 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Richard (Mary Rose) Nakahara, of Hawi, Howard (Raquel) Nakahara, of Kailua, Oahu; brother, Thomas (Rosemary) Kawamoto, of Hilo; sisters, Miyoko Okaji, of Kailua, Oahu, Shizue Iwashita, of Hilo, Yoshie (Hideo) Kaneshiro, of Honolulu, Masae Okamoto, of Kona; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Vern St. Amand

Vern Naubert St. Amand, 57, of Kailua-Kona, died March 1 at his residence. Born Oct. 2, 1954, in Tacoma, Wash., he was a cabinetmaker, finish carpenter and member of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

A memorial talk will be given 2 p.m. April 28 at the Kaloko Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

He is survived by wife, Robbin St. Amand, of Kailua-Kona; mother, Lynn St. Amand, of Palmer, Alaska; sisters, Cheri St. Amand, of Palmer, Alaska, Christy (Bernd) Hoffmann, of Ridgefield, Wash.; brothers, Mark St. Amand, of Palmer, Alaska, Cy (LA) St. Amand, of Seward, Alaska; a niece; a nephew.
