James Kubo

James Kubo, 87, of Ewa Beach, Oahu, died April 7 in Ewa Beach. Born Jan. 5, 1925, in North Kona, he was a former Kailua-Kona resident, retired supervisor for Hawaiian Tel and an Army veteran.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. April 21 at the Oahu Cemetery Chapel for a 10:30 a.m. service 10:30 AM. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by daughter, Jaymee Kubo; brothers, Winfred and Ralph Kubo; sisters, Amy Ross, Judy Fukuda, Jeanette Michi Hines and Eiko DeQuattro; a grandson.

Rickie Deniz

Rickie G. Deniz, 56, of Hilo, died March 25. Born Feb. 22, 1956, in Riverside, Calif., he was president of Diversified Ag Products Inc., worked at Suisan and Harold Crawford Co., member of Family Christian Center in Hilo, Hawaii Papaya Association, former member of Hilo Rotary Club, Hawaiian Civic Club and Western Pacific Fisheries Regional Management Council.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 21 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery, Section G. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers omitted.

He is survived by wife, Pam Deniz; son, Dustin (Midori) Deniz; two grandchildren; sister, Betty Deniz-Leslie; brothers, Harvey (Jan) Naito, Earl (Barbra) Naito, Robert (Ruth) Young, Alan (Linda) Young, Michael (Jane) Young; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jose “Pake” Gonzales Sr., 87, of Kapaau, died March 25 at Kohala Hospital. Born in Halawa, Kohala, he was a retired vehicle and equipment maintenance superintendent with Raytheon Services Nevada and member of Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. April 21 at Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers omitted.

He is survived by wife, Laura Gonzales, of Kapaau; son, Joseph (Carole) Gonzales Jr., of Santa Monica, Calif.; daughters, Carmen (Mark) Malovich, of Australia, Carmela (Ken) Gonzales, of Kohala, Yolanda (Mel) Gonzales, of Boise, Idaho; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, an aunt and cousin.

Larry Maikui Ibana aka “Bruddha Bang,“ 62, of Waimea, died April 10 in Mesa, Ariz. He was born Feb. 6, 1950.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. April 21 at Waimea Door of Faith Church for a service. Scattering of the ashes will be held in private following the service. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers omitted.

Brocky Rapozo

Brocky Aleka Rapozo, 31, of Honokaa, died April 4 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 14, 1980, in Honokaa, he was a manager and cook for C.C. Jon’s Snack-in’ Shoppe in Honokaa.

Friends may call at 2:30 p.m. April 21 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 4 p.m. service. Friends may also call from 1 to 5 p.m. April 22 at Papa’s House, 45-3211 Ohia Street, Honokaa, for a celebration of life. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers omitted.

Waimoku Lum Ho

Waimoku “Moku” Teruichi Lum Ho, 28, of Mountain View, died April 6 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 29, 1984, in Hilo, he was a shipping department worker for a papaya processing company and employed by 7-Eleven in Kurtistown.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. April 22 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. A graveside and burial service will be held at noon April 23 at Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section). Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

Chikara Ishihara

Chikara Ishihara, 92, of Honolulu, died April 13 in Honolulu. Born Dec. 24, 1919, in Waimea, he was a retired farmer and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin, Gojikai.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. April 24 at Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin for a 3 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers and monetary donations omitted.

He is survived by son, Calvin Ishihara, of Keaau; daughter, Sandra Pires, of Honolulu; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister, Mitsuyo Takahashi, of Hilo.

William Bottrell

William “Bill” Ham Bottrell, 98, of Kailua-Kona, died April 5 at his residence. Born Dec. 3, 1913, in Ewen, Mich., he was a retired purchasing agent for AC Spark Plug Division of General Motors Corp. in Flint, Mich., a World War II Army veteran, former chairman of the Boy Scouts Flint Troop 186, life member of the Masons Flint Lodge 23, member of Kona Amateur Radio Society WH6CSA, a navigator and senior member of the U.S. Power Squadron and a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain on the Great Lakes.

A service will be held at a later date in Michigan. Memorial donations may be sent to Hospice of Kona, P.O. Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745.

He is survived by sons, Edward (Hazel) Bottrell, of Glen Haven, Nova Scotia, Thomas (Susan) Bottrell, of Kailua-Kona, Paul (Mei) Bottrell, of San Mateo, Calif.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
