The Living Arts Gallery, at 55-3435 Akoni Pule Highway, Hawi, hosts an evening with author Hank Wesselman from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Wesselman will present “The Modern Mystical Movement and the Emergence of the Transformational Community.”

From 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Wesselman will lead participants in “Reconnecting With Your Ancestral Spirits.” This workshop, held on a private estate, requires advance registration. Family fun run
planned Saturday

Participants are needed for a one- to two-mile family run or walk event at Kealakehe High School planned for April 21. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the event begins at 9.

Building soil
program planned

Building soil is every garden’s mantra in West Hawaii. Learn some proven techniques that use local inputs at the lowest costs possible. Gerry Hebert and Bob Shaffer lead an exploration into soil creation from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Kawanui Farm in Honalo. Participants may take a picnic lunch and stay for an afternoon workshop with Nancy Redfeather. Celebrate Architecture Month with a free movie Saturday

The Hawaii Island Section of the Honolulu Chapter of the American Institute of Architects celebrates Architecture Month in Hawaii with free public showings of the film “Grand Paris – The President and the Architect.” This movie documents French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s ambitious plan to develop Le Grand Paris for the 21st century. The film follows as he works with Dutch architect Winy Maas over the course of one year to create a sustainable city that embraces nature. Island architects hope the film will serve as a launching point for further public discussion about design in Hawaii.

The film will be shown at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa. The Waimea screening is set for 5:30 April 27 in the Hualalai Conference Room at the W.M. Keck Observatory Headquarters.

Kawaihae Canoe Club bazaar Saturday

Kawaihae Canoe Club is holding its Heritage Bazaar and Rummage Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kawaihae Harbor. Enjoy a day of fun, education and entertainment as the KCC celebrates the Hawaiian traditions, history and future of canoe racing. Events include a silent auction of Big Island activities, services and art, a paddling heritage exhibit, a movie screening of the latest club’s women’s cross channel to Maui trip, outrigger canoe rides, Portraits in Paradise photos, art and craft booths, food and homemade goodies, massage and wellness practitioners and a rummage sale of nearly new and slightly used items.

Earth and Ocean Festival in Keauhou Saturday

The Earth and Ocean Festival at Keauhou on Saturday will showcase and emphasize the unique treasures of Hawaii Island through active participation in educational booths and activities on coral reef, ocean stewardship and conservation practices in Hawaii. Traditional Hawaiian cultural practices will be shared, and environmental presentations will be shown in the Reef and Sustainable Island Theater. Enjoy locally made and sourced food.

Musical entertainment includes Hapa, Darlene Ahuna and Bula Akamu. Funding is provided by HTA and the County of Hawaii Department of Research and Development. This free event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the luau grounds at Keauhou Beach Resort.

Camp Tarawa Detachment 1255 meeting Saturday

The Camp Tarawa Detachment 1255 of the Marine Corps League will meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Banjy’s Paradise Bar & Grill at the Waikoloa Village Golf Course. The monthly business meeting follows lunch at 1 p.m.

All serving, retired or reserve Marines and Navy Corpsmen and their spouses are invited to attend. Dress is resort casual.

Hula fundraiser Saturday in Honokaa

The Hamakua Youth Foundation’s inaugural Hula Festival Fundraiser starts at 4 p.m. Saturday at the People’s Theatre in Honokaa. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for 5 to 12-year-olds and free for children under 5.
