Volcano Art Center presents writer’s retreat

Writers are invited to experience Volcano Art Center’s Weekend Writer’s Retreat: “Writing for Power, Heart and Vision.” Volcano’s resident writing expert Tom Peek will guide an intimate group through a focused weekend of writing, sharing and personal growth beginning April 27.

Peek has been teaching his popular writing workshops since 1991 through the Volcano Art Center, UH Hilo and the Lanai Arts and Culture Center. He has written for more than 30 years, both professionally and as a potent way to process and guide the experiences of his life.

This annual getaway is designed to help writers in all stages and genres improve the emotion, depth and potency of their work. Students are led through a series of writing exercises, group discussions and stimulating sessions to help “free the writer within.”

The Volcano Hale in Volcano Village will serve as host for the retreat. Cost of attendance is $280 or $262 for VAC members, with six meals and supplies included. The retreat is restricted to 14 students. A limited number of private rooms at the Volcano Hale are available at a discounted rate of $150 for two nights. Financial aid applications are due by April 14.
