A 35-year-old man is facing criminal charges for allegedly recording separately a woman and girl using a public bathroom Saturday in Hilo.
Hilo resident Faavae E. Tuinei was charged Monday with two counts first-degree violation of privacy, a class C felony, in connection with two reported incidents of a man using a cellphone to record females in public bathrooms, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Tuinei allegedly went into a women’s public bathroom in Hilo and used a cellphone to record a 24-year-old woman using the bathroom, according to police. When witnesses confronted him, he reportedly left the area on foot.
Less than an hour later, Tuinei was reportedly observed using a cellphone in an adjacent stall to record a 13-year-old girl using a public bathroom in the Panaewa area, according to police. A relative of the victim detained him until police arrived and arrested him.
Tuinei remains held on $20,000 bail, according to police. — WHT
