South Dakota also has seat belt law

I read the letter from Mr. Haggerty of South Dakota in which he got a ticket here for not using his seat belt because nobody told him it was the law, then went home vowing he and his friends would never come back since we fleece our “innocent tourists.”

Apparently he has never known anybody to get hurt or killed from not using seat belts, as most of the rest of us have. He must not be very well traveled in this country, since most states and cities have had seat belt laws for many, many years.

Likewise, he cannot have traveled in other countries, such as Singapore where chewing gum can get you canned, or in Saudi Arabia where filching a pack of that same gum can cause you to lose your hand.

I would like to point out to Mr. Haggerty, and others of like mind from South Dakota, that South Dakota does have a seat belt law. It covers anybody sitting in the front seat of a vehicle.

It appears Mr. Haggerty is ignorant of both Hawaii’s and South Dakota’s seat belt laws.
