The 10:47 a.m. temblor’s epicenter was estimated to be about one mile west of Honomu. It had a depth of 27 miles, according to the survey. The USGS initially had reported it as a magnitude 4.4 quake.
People reported feeling weak to light shaking in the Kona area. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, which listed the earthquake as a magnitude 4.8, said no tsunami was generated.
