Approximately 9,090 Hawaii Electric Light Co. customers experienced short power interruptions at 9:49 p.m. Tuesday and at 1:50 p.m. today, when Hamakua Energy Partners’ generators unexpectedly tripped offline, said HELCO spokesman Roger Keller.

Approximately 9,090 Hawaii Electric Light Co. customers experienced short power interruptions at 9:49 p.m. Tuesday and at 1:50 p.m. today, when Hamakua Energy Partners’ generators unexpectedly tripped offline, said HELCO spokesman Roger Keller.

The affected customers, located in various locations throughout Hawaii Island, were turned off automatically to protect the rest of the system. Other HELCO generating units in reserve were immediately started and service to all customers was restored within 10 minutes or less, Keller said.
