A man and woman suffered minor injuries Thursday when their vehicle rolled in a one-car crash on Queen Kaahumanu Highway in Kailua-Kona.

Shortly before 11 a.m., the woman was driving a four-door Volkswagen sedan and headed northbound when she apparently swerved to avoid hitting “something” in the road, struck the highway’s embankment and rolled at least once, according to the Hawaii Police Department. The vehicle landed upright in the northbound lane across from Kaiwi Street.

Assisted by fire rescue personnel, the two were able to exit the vehicle and walk to an awaiting ambulance. They were transported to Kona Community Hospital.

One northbound lane of the highway was closed while crews cleaned up the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
