On Saturday and Sunday, the Kona Roping Club and about 250 contestants will participate in the 48th-annual Kona Stampede Rodeo. Included in the rodeo are events that you will only see in Hawaii, such as the poo wai u and the action-packed double mugging. Other events will be bull riding, tie down roping, ribbon mugging, dally team roping, dally team 90s and for the wahine – calf mugging and breakaway roping. Children aged 8 and under will compete in barrel racing.

The rodeo takes place at the Honaunau Rodeo Arena on City of Refuge Road, and the action begins at 8 a.m. Saturday with slack roping to qualify for the show. The rodeo starts promptly at noon, both days. Admission is $7. Children under 11 are admitted for free. Food concessions will be available, sponsored by Ohana Grinds.
