Jean Matthews

Jean “Jeannie” Yvonne Matthews, 70, of Kealakekua, died March 9 at Kona Community Hospital. Born May 29, 1941, in Hilo, she was a retired assistant manager for King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel and front desk manager for the former Kona Hilton Hotel and Pacific Empress Hotel.

Visitation begins at 4 p.m. March 14 at Immaculate Conception Church in Holualoa, where Mass is at 6 p.m. Scattering of ashes will be at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Paul D’Almeida, of Hilo, Rex (Gloria) Matthews, of Holualoa, Jordan Matthews, of Kealakekua; daughters, Sheila Matthews, of Santa Cruz, Calif., Coleen (Randy Molcilio) Matthews, of Naalehu, Charlene Matthews, of Honolulu, Jhanalyn Matthews, of Kealakekua; hanai son, Lyle Matthews, of Kealakekua; eight grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Irene Kondo

Irene Shirley Kondo, 81, of Hilo, died March 6 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 1, 1931, in Hilo, she was a retired seamstress and Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church member.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. March 15 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo, where a funeral service begins at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 in Hilo. The family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by son, Gregory (Cheryle) Ikeda, of Hilo; daughters, Toni-Marie (Greg) Wilhelm, of Hilo, Roxann Ikeda, of Hilo, Theresa (Robert) Botelho, of Makawao, Maui; brother, Walter Moniz, of Hilo; sister, Mary Alice (Ernest) Matsumoto, of Hilo; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; numerous nephews nieces, and cousins.

Betty Satomba

Betty Jean Satomba, 65, of Hilo, died March 3 at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 28, 1946, in Hilo, she was a retired Hilo Medical Center admitting clerk.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. March 14 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo, where a memorial service begins at 5 p.m. The family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughter, Michele Lea (Lloyd) Ishii, of Hilo; son, Brandon Lee (Milena) Satomba, of Las Vegas; sisters, Elaine Ahu, of Hilo, Carol Luciano of Hilo; four grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Agnes Mercado

Agnes “Aggie” Ellen Ayala Mercado, 81, of Hilo, died March 5 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired warehouse distributor with the former Liberty House on Oahu and St. Joseph Catholic Church member.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. March 15 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, where a prayer service begins at 7 p.m. Friends may also call at 10 a.m. March 16 at the Alae Cemetery for graveside committal services. The family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Arcadio Mercado, of Hilo; son, Jeffrey (Ramona) Anduha, of Hilo; daughter, Jennifer (Steven) Arelliano, of Oregon; brother, James Ayala, of Hilo; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Cipriano Corpuz Jr.

Cipriano “Jun” R. Corpuz Jr., 72, of Hilo, died Feb. 21 at his residence. Born Dec. 30, 1939, in Pangasinan, Philippines, he was a retired Diamond Head Papaya Co. shipping coordinator and St. Joseph Catholic Church member.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. March 16 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo, where a wake service begins at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10 a.m. March 17 at the mortuary, where a funeral service begins at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park Ilima Section. The family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Rosita Corpuz, of Hilo; sons, Joey (Clarina) Corpuz, of Los Angeles, Jerry Corpuz, of Hilo, Raymond Corpuz, of Hilo; daughters, Josephine Corpuz, of Los Angeles, Judy (Alex) Nicolas, of Hilo, Jeanie Corpuz, of Hilo, Juvy Corpuz, of Los Angeles; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
