Housel files to run for District 6 seat

West Hawaii resident Fred Housel on Monday filed papers to run for state House of Representatives in District 6.

West Hawaii Today reported in January Housel intended to seek office. Candidates for state office were unable to file papers until this month, when the state’s Reapportionment Commission approved a reapportionment plan and released new state district maps.

“Many voters have told me that Hawaii Island’s economy and unemployment are number on on their list,” Housel said in his announcement.

Other issues concerning West Hawaii residents are the Honokohau Small Boat Harbor, traffic congestion and the progress of the West Hawaii community college, Housel said.
