The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high wind advisory for the Big Island through 6 p.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high wind advisory for the Big Island through 6 p.m. Saturday.

The service forecast winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts reaching 50 mph for many parts of the Big Island.

Areas of West Hawaii including Honokaa, Waimea, Waikoloa, Kailua-Kona, Milolii, South Point and Pahala were identified in the advisory. Advisory-level winds were also forecast Saddle Road above the 5,000-foot elevation.

A high wind advisory means that winds of at least 30 mph and gusts over 50 mph are forecast, according to the service. Winds this strong can bring down tree branches. Motorists are advised to use extra caution.
