“Radiance,” an exhibition of woodcut and monotype prints by Kona printmaker Andrea Pro, opens at the Fairmont Orchid on Thursday. “Radiance” features a collection of images arising from Pro’s relationship with the natural world in Hawaii.

Living on a coffee farm in Keauhou, Pro is immersed in nature with the sounds, smells, and movement of clouds, rain, wind and sunlight attracting her attention every day. Over years of being in nature she has come to rely less on visual information and form in her work and more on understanding the qualities or energy of the plants and other species she depicts. Light, movement and conveying the essence of a subject is central to her work.

“Radiance” is a collection of images printed over the past five years that includes color woodcut botanicals prints from her Hawaii Heritage Plant series, along with scenes such as cloud forests and lava fields, along with a few abstract monotypes.

The public is invited to the opening reception of “Radiance” from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at The Fairmont Orchid Resort’s Luana Lounge. The exhibit will be open daily from March 15 to June 10.
