A winter weather advisory for Big Island summits remains in effect until 6 p.m. today. High moisture and below freezing temperatures will lead to periods of snow and freezing fog through Wednesday. As much as 2 inches of fresh snow is anticipated, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

The public is advised to check the status of the road, the current weather and forecast for Mauna Kea before visiting the mountain.
