HPA’s ukulele festival pays tribute to Disney

More than 150 students from Hawaii Preparatory Academy, Kealakehe Intermediate School and Waikoloa Elementary and Middle School will perform in the 19th annual Ukulele Festival at Hawaii Preparatory Academy at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The festival, which is free and open to the public, will be held at Gates Performing Arts Center, located on HPA’s Upper Campus.

More than 150 students from Hawaii Preparatory Academy, Kealakehe Intermediate School and Waikoloa Elementary and Middle School will perform in the 19th annual Ukulele Festival at Hawaii Preparatory Academy at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The festival, which is free and open to the public, will be held at Gates Performing Arts Center, located on HPA’s Upper Campus.

The students are directed by Georgia Polakova, Dagan Bernstein and Lynn Kakugawa (HPA); Gloria Juan Tapaatoutai (Kealakehe) and Lani Opunui (Waikoloa).

This year’s festival will feature music and dance from the wonderful world of Disney, going back to the 1930s. Musical selections include “When You Wish Upon A Star,” “Zippity Doo Dah,” “The Ballad of Davy Crockett,” “Heigh Ho” and “The Mickey Mouse Club March.” Other highlights include favorite selections from Disney movies, including “Dumbo,” “Fantasia,” “Lilo and Stitch,” “The Muppets,” “101 Dalmatians,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “High School Musical” and “The Lion King.”
