Yuriko Ota

Yuriko Koshi Ota, 82, of Holualoa, died Feb. 22 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 15, 1929, in Honaunau, she was a retired cashier at KTA Stores in Kailua-Kona. She was also a cashier at the former Kona Inn Gift Lanai, Keauhou Sundry Shop, co-owner of the former Holualoa Super Market and a sales clerk for Hardwoods Hawaii.

Private services were held.

She is survived by sons, Franklin Ota, of Kaloko Mauka, Gerald (Karene) Ota, of Kailua-Kona, Newton (Diane) Ota, of Carson City, Nev., Travis (Shannon) Ota, of Kealakekua; daughter, La Verne Kanno, of Kealakekua; brothers, Jerry (Nancy) Koshi, of Honolulu, Tasuke Koshi, of Honolulu; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Reidun LaFleur

Reidun Bruteig LaFleur, 68, of Volcano, died March 1 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Norway, she was a retired registered nurse, member of New Hope Christian Fellowship in Volcano and Daughters of God Praise Hula Group.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. March 6 at New Hope Christian Fellowship in Volcano for a 10 a.m. celebration of life. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, John LaFleur, of Volcano; daughter, Reidun LaFleur, of Volcano; sons, John (Amy) LaFleur Jr., of Hayden, Idaho, Frank (Makiko) LaFleur, of California; mother, Petra Bruteig, of Norway; sister, Inga Bruteig, of Norway; brothers, Magne (Marianne) Bruteig, John Bruteig, both of Norway; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ichiro Awa

Ichiro “Rick” Awa, 79, of Hilo, died March 1 at his residence. Born Aug. 21, 1932, in Hilo, he was a retired Army sergeant and retired mechanic from Jack’s Tours Co. in Hilo.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. March 9 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 for a graveside committal service and burial. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers be omitted.

He is survived by sons, Richard Awa, Roy Awa, both of Hilo, Stanford Awa, of Honolulu; daughter, Jeanette Dela Cruz, of Maryland; sisters, Mitsuko (Mitsuo) Tsuha, Judy Yamamoto, both of Honolulu, Helen (Charles) Oba, Lillian Awa, both of Hilo; hanai sons, Francis Makaiwi, Duwayne (Tina) Waipa, Harvey (Maureen) Waipa, Milton (Wendy) Waipa, all of Hilo, Rodney (Sherry) Waipa, of Iowa; hanai daughters, Nadine (Leo) Aceret, Natalie Ulibas, both of Hilo; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Gladys Lopes

Gladys “Granny” Kalani Lopes, 75, of Pahoa, died Jan. 25 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 18, 1936, in Honolulu, she was a courier for Clinical Labs and member of Jehovah’s Witnesses Pahoa Congregation.

Friends may call at 4:30 p.m. March 8 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary for a 6 p.m. service. A scattering of ashes and celebration of life will be announced at the service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Charles (Denise) Lopes Jr., Russell (Nani) Lopes, both of Kaneohe, Oahu, Brian (Ashley) Lopes, of Kapaa, Zachary (Jackie) Keo, of Eden Rock, Warren (Sas) Lopes, of Waikane, Lawrence (Julie) Lopes, of Hilo; daughters, Charlene (Dennis) Kaniho, of Pahoa, Hannah (Doug) Eckert, of Kaneohe, Oahu, Terri (Moe) Tauilo, of Portland; sister, Mabel Himphill, of Paradise Park; 47 grandchildren, 98 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Hildur Bals

Hildur Adeena Bals, 91, of Pahoa, died Feb. 26 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 3, 1921, in Ironwood, Mich., she was an Avon representative and member of Puna Baptist Church.

No services will be held.

She is survived by son, Tony Bals, of Pahoa; two grandchildren.

Elizabeth Araujo

Elizabeth S. Araujo, 95, of Hilo, died Feb. 27 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pepeekeo, she was a homemaker, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, St. Joseph Choir and Aloha Choir, Y.M.I. Ladies Auxiliary and Rosary Society.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. March 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Albert (Janet) Araujo, of Papaikou, Clyde Araujo, of Orchidland, Lorrin (Margaret) Araujo, Louis (Jane) Araujo Jr., Gerald (Angela) Araujo, all of Hilo; daughter, Paulette (Ernest) Soares, of Hilo; sister, Christine (Walter) Azevedo, of Hilo; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
