An Ahikawa Street home was completely destroyed in a Monday afternoon blaze.

An Ahikawa Street home was completely destroyed in a Monday afternoon blaze.

Battalion Chief Steve Loyola said no one was home and no one was injured in the fire, which left the house partially collapsed.

The fire was initially reported to be on Ahulani Street and appeared to have started at about 4 p.m. Loyola said it was on Ahikawa Street, near Kauwila Street. Ahikawa was closed to traffic as of press time as firefighters continued to clean up the fire. Loyola said firefighters had the blaze extinguished within 10 or 15 minutes of arriving on scene.

A car on the property was also damaged, he said.

The cause of the fire was unknown Monday. A fire inspector was headed to the fire scene to begin an investigation, Loyola said.

Firefighters from the Kailua Station, Captain Cook Station, Keauhou Station, the West Hawaii hazardous materials team and one volunteer company responded to the blaze.
