KTA’S S’PORT UP! PROGRAM ALLOWS SHOPPERS TO HELP ATHLETIC PROGRAMS

WEST HAWAII TODAY

Big Island shoppers can help provide much-needed sports equipment and air travel to students at 17 local high schools by shopping at KTA Super Stores this spring.

The S’port Up! program, now in its sixth year, is a collaborative effort between KTA, Sports Line and Hawaiian Airlines to ensure that Big Island student athletes have what they need to pursue their passion for sports, according to the grocery store. Since the program began in 2007, some $250,000 has been awarded among the island’s high schools.

The program awards each of the schools their share of $50,000 annually, according to the store. For every participating S’port Up! product purchased, a customer can allocate one point toward a high school.

The more points a school earns, the larger share of the sports equipment and travel credits it will receive.

This year shoppers can earn points by buying any of 250 products, including 14 brands such as Hawaiian Sun, Snapple, Kellogg’s, ConAgra Foods, Diamond Baker and Frito-Lay.

Receipts dating Wednesday though April 10 may be allocated to schools. Final results, according to KTA, will be announced in May.

This year’s participating West Hawaii schools include Hualalai Academy, Parker School, Kanu o ka Aina New Century Public Charter School, Ke Kula o Ehunuikaimalino, and Honokaa, Ka’u, Kealakehe, Konawaena and Kohala high schools.
